NICTO: Neutral Independent Court Trial Observer

LWOB continues to develop as a leader in the art of neutral trial observation. The organization recently completed a large scale observation in Ethiopia and is currently engaged in an observation in Namibia. The model involves sending lawyers, either from major law firm partners or from LWOB's volunteer database, for a minimum of two weeks of trial observation. Candidate observers who can serve for longer terms are always preferred.

LWOB trial observations are tiered into three project models:
Phase I: Observation Only of part of a trial with no report or comment- constructive or otherwise.
Phase II: Observation of some or much, but not all, of a trial, with a brief report directed to those matters observed with some level of completeness.
Phase III: Full trial observation, from start to finish, with a detailed observation report and accompanying analysis of the national and international laws and norms implicated in that trial.

Any vacancies for trial observers are announced on LWOB's listserv and posted to the LWOB Job Board (Home Page, Click on "Jobs") --both found at this website. Lawyers interested in serving as an observer are encouraged to apply for this personally rewarding and meaningful pro bono experience.

With the generous pro bono contributions of Gibson Dunn & Crutcher, LLP LWOB has just completed its own Trial Observation Manual tailored to LWOB's neutrality and confidential observation model.
